This is a project to create a model of a Rail Head Treatment Train. This project will not be 100 % accurate as the correct wagons and modules are not available, but these are MPV castings which I think look the part. The watertanks will be scratchbuilt.

I am determined to finish this before the water cannon season this year, so keep checking back for updates!

I have been working on a project to respray 5 Class 87s into their new owner BRC's colours. Now the real thing have been unveiled, here they are! I went to see the real thing last week (see my other fotopic site, 41a.fotopic.net) and my models were finished before the real thing.

A very heavy weathering job was required to produce a model of 20059 as per the pictures on the Preserved Diesels website of it just as it entered preservation. It is therefore in open storage condition. I have cheated a little by adding some weathering to the roof to make it look like it had just been withdrawn.

This is a repaint of a Bachmann Class 20 into DRS livery, in the condition is was in just before withdrawal and sale to HNRC.

This is a repaint of a bachmann 20 into DRS livery. Its had a few details added, such as headlights, extra fuel tanks, the strange blanking plate on the cab front and the headcode boxes have been prototypically messed up!

This is a project to produce 5 Class 20/3s. It has been going on for a while now but I am now happy enough for them to see the light of day!

This is a long term project to model grey pair 20096 and 20905. I have done a model of 905 in DRS livery before, but (sorry Paul!) i realised when it came to doing it again that the tanks on the first model were too small - the DRS 20/3s have the smaller tanks, but for some reason 905's are bigger. This meant a scratchbuilt set of tanks. I am pleased with the finish of both overall. They are to be lightly weathered before departing to their new owner.

This loco arrived at 'my works' in a very dilapidated state via eBay. I have successfully managed to clean off all the paint and relivery it in Network Rail yellow. This loco has been subsequently detailed some more by its new owner Nick Gurney of Dyserth Road fame and can be seen on his layouts and those of Wirral Finescale - see the links page!

This is a repaint of a Hornby 31 to create 31285 in Network Rail colours. As seems to be always the way the headlight hasn't been moved - why can't Hornby bring out the model with the headlight in the lower position which seems to be more common?!

This is a project to produce 31405 'Mappa Mundi' in Intercity Mainline colours. It will be lightly weathered when completed.

This is a first for me.... going retro! The first time ever i have produced models that aren't current. I am very pleased with the way they have turned out, took me back to my youth in the 80's!

This is a simple repaint of a Hornby 31 into Intercity colours. I got some home made transfers for it, just needs someone to release the etched plates to finish it off.

A simple repaint and detailing job done here - added headlights and roof pods, and just repainted the sides in General grey before a light dusting of dirt!

This is a simple repaint of a Hornby 31 into EWS livery. The headlight is in the wrong place but the locos owner took the decision to leave it where it is so it still worked.

This is a repaint of a Hornby Class 31 into Wessex Trains livery. The headlight is in the wrong place again - hopefully Hornby will bring out a model with the light in the much more common place soon!!

This is a commission to produce 33025 finished in DRS livery but without decals as it ran for a time with West Coast Railway company. It will be very dirty as well. I really enjoyed producing this model, right up my street!

Another commission, this time a straight repaint of a Heljan 33 into DRS livery. I was very pleased with the result of this project, and the purchaser was extremely pleased too!

This is a renumber and detail job on a Fragonset 33/1 finished as 33103 Swordfish.

This is a simple repaint of slim jim 33207 into West Coast Railways livery.

This model dates back to 2005, and was is the earliest repaint featured on this site!

I said at the time - "This is one of my favourite models to date. It was a combination of models, a new unrefurbished body and a refurbished underframe. this meant the loco features working headlights. Always been one of my favourite DRS 37s as it has many different details from the rest."

It was sold at the time to one of my regulars, who recently and coincidentally sold it on to another one of my regulars recently!

This is a model of 37038 in DRS livery. It was converted from the Bachmann model of the same number.

This is an extensive reworking of a Class 37 to represent 37059 in old DRS livery. It has been heavily weathered, as per the prototype.

This is a simple renumber and detail project. It took a limited edition model of 37038, renumbered it and added a few refinements. It needs nameplates, when they are available, to finish it off.

This is a repaint of a Bachmann 37 into HNRC Orange and Grey livery.

This is a project to extensively rework a Bachmann Class 37 to produce the one off 37116 Sister Dora.

This is a repaint of a Bachmann 37 to represent 37194 in HNRC Orange/Grey.

Another bash at this particular 37 - this time based on the latest Bachmann 37/0, and using the excellent transfers and plates from Precision labels. I decided against moving the headlight this time and i don't think it detracts from the model.

This was my first attempt at 37248 in WCR livery - as can been seen by the later models my maroon was far too light!

This was a model done in 2006. I used an unrefurbished bodyshell and a refurbished underframe, so was able to adapt the lighting for this loco. Its headlight is lower than the normal 37s- this loco has always stood out to me for that reason so good to model it!

I recently got 3 of the Vitrains 37s to see what they are like. As I suspected they are pretty good with a bit of tweaking! I got 2 models of 37131 and one of 37414. The model here is 37131 with the front ends from 37414 - as 37248 is one of the few unrefurbished 37s with refurbished style headcode panels. As the model of 37414 is now 37611 i didn't need the refurbished style noses for it, so a suitable swap was effected!

This is a simple repaint of a Vitrains Class 37/0 into DRS livery as 37261. I have added etched window frames, brass air horns and bufferbeam detailing.

Another Scottish 37 I hear you say! I've always fancied doing this model but never quite got round to it. Anyway with added impetus of patches of EWS maroon and strange yellow patches on the front ends meant it became a must! This collection shows progress as it goes along. Interestingly this model is now featured twice on this page - It was previously 37425!

Now finished, this is definitely my favourite repaint of all that i have done. A lot a research, and patience, and a perfect finish!

This is the first part of a long running project which will eventually deliver a full Royal Scotsman rake. Now finished in immaculate condition.

This is a project to create a model of recently scrapped 37408 Loch Rannoch in condition just prior to its accident.

This is a repaint of a Bachmann 37 into EWS livery as run-of-the-mill 37410. Has all the usual detail refinements, and is weathered as per the prototype, and has the scottie dog as well. The only thing it lacks is the stick on Aluminum 100 names on the side, but you can't always have everything. I have subsequently detailed the buffer beams on this loco, and it has now been sold.

I was asked to recreate one of the other Royal Scotsman 37s - here it is. No etched 'beasties' on this one, or strange paint patches!

This is a project to model 37417 in its current mainline condition. It sports a prototypical current finish, with gaps in the paintwork and yellow patches in differing shades on the nose ends, and also, oddly along the gold band.

This is a repaint of a Bachmann 37/4 into DRS livery to represent 37423. Comes with the usual refinements including fully detailed front ends. Has NEM couplings as its new owner prefers.

This is a model of 37425 'Pride of the Valleys' which is a bachmann respray. This is my favourite 37, and the original model i did i have modified recently by improving the weathering. Using Hornby Class 50 parts the ETH hoses can be made to look very authentic.

This loco was subsequently resprayed and is featured elsewhere in this gallery as a very battered looking 37401!

This is a project for a customer to convert a battered bodyshell (formerly 37408) into a model of DRS liveried 37510. Luckily enough the base model had all the correct grilles and roof to represent the loco. I have used parts from Shawplan's 37/5 detailing kit to finish off the front end.

This is a conversion of a Bachmann 37 into dot headcode fitted 37510. This is the only 37/5 still in traffic that you can use the Bachmann model for without further extensive roof surgery!

Its now finished as 37515 at the request of its new owner.

This is DRS modified 37607.

This was my first attempt at converting a Bachmann 37 into a model of modified DRS liveried 37609. The model features the correct grille layouts both on the roof and cabsides. The variety in the 37 fleet in these areas is amazing! This is my favourite model i have done to date, its taken 18 months on and off to complete but it was well worth the effort. It is finished in immaculate condition as it was used on the Wedding Belle charter. It also features white walled tyres, silver buffers and looks the part!

This is a simple repaint of a Bachmann Class 37 into DRS Compass livery finished as 37610. It is finished in immaculate condition.

My latest DRS loco, 37610. Needs nameplates, but they aren't available as far as i can find. The first DRS loco i have done with pipework. Hope its worth the wait Rob!

This is a comprehensive reworking of a vitrains 37 to produce DRS 37611. I have done this loco before based on one of the old Bachmann models, this was my first attempt on a vitrains one. I have also improved the way i produce the WIPAC clusters and roof mounted headlights following the excellent article in Rail Express.

This is a project to convert the new Bachmann model of 37672 into DRS 37612. This is the first time this loco has been accurately 'modellable', as the right bodyshell has appeared with the correct cantrail grilles. I would like to get one of these fitted with a sound decoder and lighting at some stage soon.

Before it has emerged from Brush Loughborough, i decided to do a model of one of DRS's more recent acquisitions, 37688. This is one of my favourite 37s, i remember as a kid in the mid 80s seeing it at Buxton when it had just been converted!

The model has all the usual accurate refinements, including the MW socket.

This is a simple repaint of a Bachmann 37 to represent Loadhaul liveried 37698. It is clean at the moment - i need to persuade its owner to let me weather it!

This is my first attempt at doing a 37/9, with a Ruston one to come. Its a tricky conversion to do, with lots of potential detail issues! Hopefully I have got this model right - it is modelled in original condition. Thanks to Alan at Bishopstoke Works for doing the article in Model Rail to make it easier!

This is an extensive reworking of an unrefurbished Bachmann Class 37 to create a model of 97301. The noses have undergone the most surgery!

This is my latest version of 97301. This time I have filled the extra steps on the bodysides, and used some Inter City models checkplating on the doors to represent the kick plates. The transfers are a mixture of Fox, Hurst Models and Scale Model Transfers - the latter have just released an excellent pack covering all that is needed to model 97301. I had already numbered my model using spare numbers from a Fox Fastline 56 pack, but I used the data panels from the SMT pack and the lifting locations are a nice touch too.

This is a simple project to respray a Lima HST power car to represent one of the newly converted MTU fitted FGW power cars. There are few external detail changes, the main one is the roof grille. This is faithfully represented of course! As usual I have chosed a subject connected to my youth - 43122 was formerly named South Yorkshire Metropolitan County if my memory serves me correct - and my Dad used to work for them so I always kept an eye out for it. So when it was released it was an obvious choice for me!

I have finally finished this loco! I started it way back last summer but it kept getting put onto the back burner whilst i did other stuff. It is finished in its current condition, and has been lightly weathered and features pipes and screw link couplings.

This is a project to repaint a Heljan 47 to create the only hybrid Advenza liveried 47, as it was just rebranded from DRS livery. It also retains the equipment for 2 different multiple working systems. I was planning to heavily weather it too, but its owner prefers it clean!

This is a repaint of a Bachmann 47 into DRS livery. Whilst the model may not be strictly accurate for 1980s modellers, its dodgy 'domino' headcode panels - which are the same as the 57s - and the dodgy long range fuel tanks - again from the 57 - make it perfect for transformation into a 47/8 or 47/7 - so here you have it!

This is a fairly straightforward repaint of a Heljan 47 into Riviera Trains livery. It needs some transfers and detailing adding. The loco was purchased from ebay and it had been repainted by its previous owner which necessitated a trip through the modelstrip!

This is a project to repaint a Hornby Class 50 to represent 50031 Hood during summer 2005 when it was used on Cardiff - Fishguard Harbour services. It ran for a time numbered and named 50028 Tiger on one side, and carried Highland stags. Here it is in that condition.

This is a renumber and weathering job to create a model of 50040 Leviathan in work stained large logo blue livery. This was the only 50 I never saw running - I only saw it on the Laira scrapline.

This is a model of 50049 'Defiance' in main line running condition. It has been recently sold so I have added a few refinements as per its new owners request - mainly Scottie Dogs as it wore on railtour duty a few years back!

A simple repaint of a Hornby 50 into two tone green as D444, as it is currently liveried. Don't like it myself, but thought it would be interesting to do.

This model has been in the paintshop since August 2006. Now finished, I am very pleased with the end results. Not attention to detail on the fronts including the set back headlight and aerials!

This is a simple repaint of a Bachmann Deltic to represent 55022 Royal Scots Grey in its current condition. It features headlights and ETH pipes. I was disappointed to see the real thing suffer its bad failure so i came up with the idea of doing a model of it and giving all the profits to the owner to assist with its restoration. He was happy with this idea, so here goes.....

This loco has been sold, but i will do more if the demand is there. So if anyone wants one, and wants to help the real thing, drop me an email!

I live a few yards from the River Porter in Sheffield, so anything Porterbrook related always gets my attention. I quite liked this when it appeared, and have been meaning to model it since the Bachmann Deltic appeared. I have finally got round to it! It of course features the unusual WIPAC style headlights at both ends.

This is a project to model 56036 in 'Dutch' livery, as it would have appeared working on civil engineers trains in the South East in the early 1990s. Finished slightly weathered.

This collection shows the work going into producing a model of 56301. This uses all Shawplan detailing parts. This is my most comprehensive 56 model yet, and the results were very pleasing. I sold it via eBay and didn't want to let it go!

I bought this loco yesterday. I have been tempted by one for a while, basically because I wanted to see a model with snowploughs. A quick hours work and some light-ish weathering and here you are!

This is a project to create 57605 Totnes Castle in FGW Blue livery. It now features improved transfers and etched plates.

This is a simple model but one of my favourites. It took a base model which had giant EWS stickers from the Fox transfers range added and then it was heavily weathered. The sticker on one side is already in half as per the prototype, and i added silver paint around the windscreens and light clusters to show word paint, and also a dirty windscreen with marks where the wipers go! A relatively simple job but one of my favourites!

This is the latest model of 60040 I have done but the first to feature the full set of Precision Labels transfers.

This is a project to create the first 4 Fastline 66/3s that have just entered service. They have had full repaints and detailing work including correct light clusters. The Fastline stripes have also been modified to be the correct width - they are different to the 56s!

This is a repaint/modification job to a 66/9 to create one of the latest 66/6s with the differing light clusters. There has been an odd trick of the light in these photos - the transfers look a different colour on the pictures to the bodyside - they aren't!

Another version of this 67, this time with 'Royal Diamond' nameplates.

This is a project to model the EWS Executive Train liveried 67029. I have done a couple of models of this loco now, including a slightly dirty one!

This is a lima model resprayed into GB Railfreight livery. I have detailed it as per the prototype, with aerials and roof pods and dummy headlights.

This is a repaint and detailing job to produce a model of 87002 in Porterbrook Purple livery. It is destined to head to its new owner with the Bulgarian liveried ones later this week.

This is a project to model 87006 in its current state including England flags on the buffers. This has vastly improved a tired Lima model.

This is a project to detail and repaint an 87 into Cotswold Rail livery. I had real problems with the silver 'bubbling' on this loco, then the acrylic primer wouldn't come off! A bit of heavy scrubbing with Phoenix paints paint stripper won through though, thank goodness!

I have finally finished the 87! Here is a repaint of a Lima 87 to represent 87022 just before its withdrawal at the end of 2007.

Having seen the pictures i fancied modelling one of the First ScotRail EWS owned Class 90s. Of course the transfers weren't available, so i looked on eBay and found Rob Herring at www.therailwaymodel.com and he thankfully made me the transfers. They are a bit fiddly to apply but the end result is good.

This is my model of 92003 Beethoven. It is a lima model which i have prototypically weathered. This is an ongoing project, as i intend to repower it with a Hornby 60 underframe, detail it and install lighting. I am a big fan of the 92s and am keen to create a high quality model of one.

This project is to create various coaches, including a rake for the limited edition model of 37425 I have on order. Some will be made available for sale as well.

Here is a set of Blue Pullmans as per the current FM Rail rake. I haven't illustrated all the coaches here, but i have produced a 7 coach rake. I even went as far as painting the interiors maroon! Note the attention to detail, such as the white steps and the orange coach door lock lights. You can get an express lighting kit to make these work, now that would be good!

I've finally completed my Network Rail 'Brake Force Runners' based on Hornby Mk2D coaches. The real things are former Gatwick Express coaches, and are numbered accurately.

This is a project to repaint 4 coaches in the interim ScotRail livery. One of them is a conversion to a BUO using the Hurst overlays. I would like a model of the West Highland line, like the Ardlui one ..... if anyone would like to build me one let me know!

This is a conversion of an Airfix Mk2 into one of the 'new' Network Rail DBSOs. I have scratchbuilt the snowplough and bufferbeam at the driving end.

This is a repaint of a Class 442 unit into South West Trains livery.

I have been commissioned by Fastline to produce 15 models of their locos - 6 of 56301, 6 of 56302 and 3 of 56303. 1 was done early on for a customer of theirs, the other 14 are now complete, phew! I intend to do a couple more, but heavily weathered. I note that the real things are very dirty now, just how i like them!!
